I find the natural world and its beauty to be something I choose to surround myself with each and everyday, which is quite easy to do when home is in northwestern Montana. We live on a dirt road at the base of the Swan Mountain Range and count deer, turkeys, pheasant, bear, and elk as neighbors.
Because of where we live, there is never a loss for inspiration. The bed of zinnias in our flower garden or the cotton candy pink clouds of a sunset against a gold and lavender sky are perfect lessons in color combination. The wild roses that grow in our yard when first budding, are a similar color to the Rubies I love. The color of the lakes in and around Glacier remind me of the Chalcedony I adore and often use. Whether it be a lesson in color theory, the shape of a found object such as a feather, leaf, egg or nest, I find there is always something to ignite that spark in my mind to create. Found and tiny treasures like these are gathered by both myself and my boys as we walk through the woods and to me, these treasures are worth more than gold.
Speaking of gold……………
I have an affinity for it. I love it. It’s the way gold pairs and looks beautiful with color. I love the way color pops and shines with it. I do create with silver, but find that my passion is with gold and believe one can never have too much gold in their life. Most pieces are offered in gold, but can easily be made with silver if you’re not quite the gold lover I am. We all perceive and see things differently, and thank goodness we do because it makes for a much more interesting, beautiful, and diverse world.
